RESIDENCE PERMIT   |   PORTUGUESE NATIONALITY

Residence Permit for Investors attracts foreign investors - "Golden Visa"
The amendment of Law N. º 23/2007, of 4th July (which approved the legal regime of Entrance, Stay and Departure of foreign citizens in national territory), by the Law N. º 29/2012, of 9th of August , created new rules regarding the concession of Residence Permits for investment activity. This is without any doubt, an extremely important measure that allows to attract direct foreign investment in Portugal, alongside the tax regime of non-habitual residents, introduced in Portugal in 2009.

In summary, this is a system specifically directed to third country nationals (non EU members), which allows granting a Residence Permit by means of an investment activity in Portugal, which must be maintained for a minimum period of five years, after which such permit may be granted permanently.

To learn more details about the legal regime, please feel free to consult our work hereby attached. If you have any questions or doubts, you should seek advice from a Lawyer.

SPECIAL REGIME FOR SEPHARDIC JEWS

Portuguese Citizenship for Sephardic Jews with Portuguese origin.

The Portuguese Parliament approved the organic law nº 1/2013 on 29 July establishing the possibility of Portuguese citizenship being granted to descendants of Sephardic Jews expelled from Portugal from the 15th century.

It is an acquisition of citizenship derived from naturalization to foreign citizens, descendants of Sephardic Jews who demonstrate "a tradition of belonging to a Sephardic community of Portuguese origin”, based on objective and proven requirements.

Sephardic Jews are called Jews descended from the traditional Jewish communities of the Iberian Peninsula (Sefarad).

The interested parties do not have to reside in the Portuguese territory nor to know the Portuguese language.

Note: The importance of genealogy lies in the merit of unveiling, on a scientific-methodological basis, the whole set of information that links one descendent to another, making a direct link from an individual to the final recipient, in the case of the applicant.
